Anxiety can be a challenging condition for both patient and care provider, and there are a great many forms of anxiety that patients can experience. As anxiety is less often caused by chemical imbalances in the brain (unlike other psychiatric conditions), we first work to understand the conditions for your anxious, nervous feelings.
 
While medications such as antidepressants can be effective, they are not always the first or best approach: frequently, therapy is a primary modality in treating this condition. Despite numerous depictions in TV and film, post-traumatic stress disorder is not strictly limited to military veterans returning from combat. Rather, PTSD can arise from any kind of trauma, including emotional, sexual, or physical traumas. As a heightened form of anxiety, PTSD is less often caused by chemical imbalances in the brain, so the primary treatment is a combination of treatments such as therapy and counseling.
 
Medications such as Zoloft and Paxil can help patients regain a sense of stability and control, but Collaborative Minds endorses a multi-modal range of treatments for this disorder.

Schizophrenia is primarily characterized by chemical imbalances in the brain, usually an excess of dopamine, that leads to a variety of disorders. Often presenting in early adulthood (early 20s) for males and a few years later for females, its positive symptoms include visual and auditory hallucinations and paranoia, and negative symptoms such as social isolation or a lack of speech. Either way, any of these symptoms can adversely affect an individual’s life and relationships.
 
As a chemical imbalance, schizophrenia is treatable with a variety of medications that act as dopamine antagonists (inhibitors), which Collaborative Minds can prescribe. We monitor these medications closely to ensure that your journey to recovery is steady and safe.
